VANGUARD CONTRACTS making the most of your interior space

Kingfisher Case Study

The Kingfisher Shopping Centre in Redditch was first opened in 1976 and three decades on it is home to over 150 of the biggest names in retail and one-of-a-kind speciality stores and boutiques. Scottish Widows have recently become the new owner of the shopping centre and over the next two years the centre will be receiving a £60 million face lift, bringing it into the top 10 shopping venues in the UK.

Within the main atrium area of the Mall there was a recessed feature centrepiece accessed on all sides by ramps and stairs, primarily consisting of a large pool with integral fountain, surrounding palm trees and occasional seating.

Part of the major regenerating scheme was to revitalise this area by removing existing fitments and fittings and infilling the whole area to the same floor level as the adjacent areas so as to provide complete retail flexibility for their future concession plans.

This was to be achieved by utilising a composite mezzanine floor. Vanguard Contracts were subcontracted to both design and implement the required project. The composite mezzanine floor was carefully designed to withstand any future loading constraints that the shopping centre may require together with the ease and flexibility of installation this type of structure provides.

Particular care and attention was taken in assuring that the new marble floor over sailing the structure did not deflect under loading conditions together with furnishing access panels to important under floor services.

The project was completed quickly and efficiently, successfully creating an attractive and practical retail environment adhering to all the desired requirements.
