Superdrug Case Study
Leading health and beauty retailer, Superdrug Stores Plc, operates form over 700 stores in both high street stores and shopping mall locations throughout the UK, offering customers an average of 10,000 products from in-store pharmaceuticals to newspapers and magazines.
The group is owned by international retail organisation A S Watson & Co, who are a subsidiary of Hong Kong based multi-national telecommunication company Hutchinson Whampoa. Superdrug has opened a flagship store within the Birmingham Bull Ring Shopping Centre, Europes newest and largest city shopping centre project.
Vanguard Contracts was employed to design and install a back-of-store mezzanine floor with an integral air conditioning support platform, together with all stud partitioning and suspended ceilings within the retail sales floor.
Careful consideration had to be given to the design of the project as the store was on the second floor of the new complex and final completion works were still in process within the mall itself, denying delivery access of the steelwork via the mall. Vanguard overcame this drawback by specifically designing the beams, columns, joists and staircase components so that they could be manually carried up the central stairwell as the lifts were also out of bounds.
The project was an overriding success, completed in the allocated time frame and meeting all the desired criteria.
